I first became friends with Liverpudlian Colin O'Brien many years ago in Silicon Valley. One morning, Colin skidded on some gravel and parted company with his Dawes Super Galaxy in the car park of our building. He landed straight armed. That's when his collar bone was supposed to break, but it didn't. His elbow shattered instead. Since he was living alone at the time and fending for himself with only one functioning arm, he came to live with us for a few weeks whilst his elbow was repaired.
A few years ago, he decided to take his photography more seriously and recently I have been looking over some of the images he has produced over the years since then. I am just appreciating for the first time, how good some of them, such as Passing Trees and Outside the Shapiro Library really are.
